April 2000

  • Know-Net was presented at the 2000 Knowledge Management & Intranet Solutions Conference & Exhibition , which was held at Novotel Hammersmith, London, UK, 4-5 April 2000
  • Know-Net framework and methodology was presented by Gregory Mentzas at the conference "New Times, New Challenges: Managing People in the Knowledge Organization", which was held at Athenaeum Intercontinental Hotel, Athens, Greece, 12 April 2000.
  • An article by Apostolou, Mentzas, Abecker and Young, entitled "Consolidating the Product Versus Process Controversy in Knowledge Management: The Know-Net Approach" was accepted for presentation at the conference Practical Application of Knowledge Management (PAKeM 2000)", Wednesday 12th - Friday 14th April 2000, Crowne Plaza Midland Hotel, Manchester, UK

March 2000

  • Know-Net has been mentioned by Ms. Agnes Bradier, Head of Sector of Corporate Knowledge Management, DG Information Society C, at the 2nd International Forum on Knowledge Management in R&D , 27-29 March 2000, London.
  • Know-Net has been mentioned in an article by PLANET, which was published in the Greek daily financial newspaper "Imerissia" (30 March 2000).

February 2000

  • An article by NAI Gooch Webster entitled "Icebergs, Pubs and the Wheel World" was published in the journal "Knowledge Management Journal" (February 2000, Volume 3, Issue 5)
  • Know-Net results were presented by DFKI at the CeBIT 2000 World Business Fair in Hannover, Germany
  • Knowledge Associates presented Know-Net at the "Knowledge Management" Executive Seminar, Thursday 24th February 2000, organised by the Centre for Business Excellence, Newcastle Business School.
  • Knowledge Associates presented Know-Net at the "Knowledge Management and Organisational Learning Conference", 28-February - 2 March 2000

December 1999

  • Know-Net has been mentioned in the "KnowledgeBusiness" site of the Teleos company (Go to What's New), under the title "Know-Net Ready for Commercialization". Teleos is a well-known company that conducts the recognized Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises - MAKE(sm) - study. MAKE is an benchmark for the identification of national and international organizations which are leaders in the knowledge economy.

November 1999

  • The first press release of Know-Net was published in the United Kingdom with the title "Know-Net, a Leading Edge Total Knowledge Management Solution to be launched in the new Millenium"
  • The preliminary results of the Know-Net project were disseminated at the European Commission Information Society Technologies (IST) Conference IST-99 with the theme Exploring Information Society Technologies, in Helsinki, 22-24 November; About 150 high-quality project information leaflets were distributed. DOWNLOAD OUR LEAFLET HERE! Next year, we hope to present an exhibition stand with Know-Net results at the Information Society Technologies Conference 2000.
  • On the 30st of November the KALIF Sharing day on Ontologies and Metadata was hosted by the DFKI in Kaiserslautern. Besides a number of LTI projects (ENRICH, KNOW-NET, IMAT and KALIF) also a number of other Esprit and 5th framework projects were present (IBROW, OntoKnowledge, GETESS, OntoBroker, OntoWise, TAMBIS, GIMS, DWQ, Camelot, Galen, CardioOP, Metrepol, etc). The morning of the sharing day was reserved for project presentations. The presenters concentrated on the types of ontologies that their projects were using, the specific requirements for ontologies that they face in their projects, the tools that they use and - in particular - the formalisms they use for representing ontologies. In the afternoon participants discussed in small groups potential strategies for the development of an XML-based ontology exchange standard. Based on a plenary discussion of these strategies, a number of concrete follow up actions were agreed. A lesson learned: if you ever go to Kaiserslautern, try flammkuche! (local cuisine)
  • Know-Net's approach for intellectual capital measurement was presented by Knowledge Associates in a seminar organised by UNICOM. The seminar series is BUSINESS INFORMATION SERIES, London, 29 November - 3 December 1999 and the title is: "Planning and Measuring Business Information". Ron Young's presentation is entitled "How to Measure and Manage Knowledge"
  • Know-Net was presented by Knowledge Associates in the 4th Annual Enterprise Information Management Conference "Exploiting information and knowledge assets for winning business decisions", London, 24-25 November 1999.
  • DFKI presented the Know-Net prototype at a Document Management Forum organized by SYSTOR AG, one of the leading Swiss software houses in the financial services sector.

October 1999

  • UBS's experiences within Know-Net were presented by Dr. Gabriele Sonnenberger (UBS) with the title "Knowledge Management: Some Experiences in a Real Bank Project" in the "Information Systems at the Turn of the Century", Swiss Computer Science Conference SCSC/99, October 6-7, 1999, Lausanne, Switzerland

September 1999

  • A paper related to KM in management consulting companies was accepted to be published in the September issue of the international journal: Knowledge and Process Management: The Journal of Corporate Transformation. The paper was written by D. Apostolou (PLANET) and G. Mentzas (ICCS) and is entitled "Managing Corporate Knowledge: A Comparative Analysis of Experiences in Consulting Firms".

June 1999

  • Know-Net member companies organised a panel session on corporate knowledge management within the 7th European Conference on Information Systems "INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND CHANGE", that took place in Copenhagen, 23-25 June, 1999 and was organised by the Department of Informatics, Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. The Panel entitled "IS-Enabled Corporate Knowledge Management: Research Directions and Lessons from the Field" was chaired by Gregory Mentzas and the panellists included Pooja Goyal (INSEAD), Ron Young (KNOWLEDGE ASSOCIATES) and Andreas Abecker (DFKI). The session attracted some 100 participants from industry and academia and generated a lively discussion and debate on KM issues.
  • The individual KM approach in Know-Net was presented in the SoftNet Seminar entitled "Knowledge Management: Theory and Practice" (10. June 1999, Zurich) by M. Bettoni
  • The work carried out by DFKI within Know-Net was presented in the IEEE WET-ICE '99 Workshop on Knowledge Media Networking, Stanford, California, 16-18 June 1999. The title of the presentation was "Developing a Knowledge Management Technology - An Encompassing View on KnowMore, Know-Net, and Enrich" given by M. Sintek
